About the Newport Harbor Girls Flag Football Team
Our Coaches
Jason Guyser has been coaching the team for four seasons. In the 2023 season, Coach Guyser led the Varsity team to becoming the Sunset League champions and the #1 team in California. The team was ranked #1 in the Nation throughout the pre and regular season. Coach Guyser has also been teaching flag football to younger players in our community for many years.

Rich Nichols, our JV coach, is a Newport Beach native who played football at CDM from 94'-96'. He went on to play Center and Offensive Line at Southern Methodist University from 97'-01'. He has coached youth sports for the last decade including soccer, basketball, tackle football and flag football. He has coached over 20+ seasons of flag football for girls and boys for the Matt Leinart leagues in Costa Mesa and Newport Beach. Rich is pictured in bottom left of the photo.

2023 Season-The Varsity team was honored as the #1 Team in the Nation on the Morning NFL Game Day Show! The girls got to run some plays along with the commentators.

Our Facilities
The teams will practice on either the grass practice fields or on the turf in the stadium.
JV and Varsity play their home games at Davidson Field.
Our History
Founded in 2021, the Newport Harbor Girls Flag Football Team has been a force to behold. The players practiced at the high school field by the pool and baseball fields. They played their games at the Great Park in Irvine and were sponsored by Under Armour, Matt Leinart Football and Females in Flag. This original team played in the finals but lost to Woodbridge. The following season (2022/2023) the team won the Pacific League. In the 2023/2024 season, the Varsity team won the Sunset League, were number 1 in California and ranked number 1 in the Nation during their entire season. This 3rd season was the first CIF season for the sport. There were no playoffs in this inaugural CIF year. In the 4th season, Fall 2024, there will be 3 teams! Due to the popularity of the sport, NHHS will have a Frosh Soph, JV and Varsity team.
